Santa Monica police arrested a 50-year-old homeless man on Thursday, Feb. 6 after causing a scene when asked for identification after trying to use a debit card with an activation sticker still attached to it.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the Sansai Restaurant, located at 2461 Santa Monica Boulevard, at 6:50 pm on this day in order to investigate a disturbance.
Upon arrival the officers interviewed a witness who told them that a patron of the restaurant had attempted to pay for a meal with a debit card that still had the activation sticker attached to it.
The witness continued to explain that when this patron had been asked for some identification he had been unable to provide any and had become irate and begun to yell profanities.
This patron had then decided to challenge a staff member to a fight. The patron then walked outside, coincidentally just as the police had arrived and begun their investigation.
The officers, after interviewing the witness, spoke with the patron outside the restaurant.
The officers noticed that this man was very, very drunk.
Based upon statements made by the witness this homeless man was arrested and charged with unlawful fighting, using offensive words in a public place, public intoxication, and violation of probation.
Bail was set at $10,000.
