The St. Monica basketball team face a stiff challenge for its postseason hopes. The Mariners are currently in third place in the Camino Real League. They end the season playing two of the best teams in the CIF Southern Section in Cathedral and Cantwell-Sacred Heart.
So with playoff hopes riding on the line, the Mariners take on Cathedral Friday night before ending their season against Cantwell-Sacred Heart, a team it recently lost to 70-30. But coach John Skinner’s team may be up for the test. The Mariners rebounded from that tough loss to hand Bosco Tech a 57-43 defeat.
Dennis Ashley, whom Skinner said has played really well recently, scored a team-high 23 points, produced five rebounds and dished out four assists for the Mariners in the victory. Teferi Henock (13 points) and Kavin Dotson backed up Ashley’s overall strong play with timely scoring.
