Santa Monica College’s lineup of the Spring 2014 Global Connections Lecture Series is underway.
The remaining lineup in the Spring 2014 Global Connections Lecture Series is:
• March 25 – “How We Forgot the Cold War,” with Dr. Jon Wiener, Professor of History in the School of Humanities at UC Irvine and a contributing editor since 1984 to America’s oldest weekly, The Nation magazine. He will talk about his research into how the Cold War era is being remembered, and how the immense effort to shape public memory about it failed.
• May 27 – “Promoting Justice in Times of Conflict,” with Dr. Annie Bird, Policy Advisor in the US Department of State’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO). She has taught courses on foreign policy analysis at the London School of Economics and in international organizations at UC Berkeley, and will discuss her work on developing policies and strategies to promote and support transitional justice.
Both lectures are free and seating is on a first-arrival. Both will be held at 11:15 am in Humanities & Social Science Lecture Hall 165 on the main SMC campus, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
The series is sponsored by the SMC Global Citizenship Council, SMC Office of Public Programs, and the SMC Associates (www.smc.edu/associates), a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus.
