Crossroads Sports Teams Earn CIF Academic Awards: Roadrunners place first in three team sports, second in five more

There are not too many schools that can balance a top-notch sports program with outstanding performances in the classroom as well. Crossroads has managed to do both exceptionally well.

Crossroads placed three teams in first place in the CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Awards, another five sports in second place, two sports in the third spot and two more in fourth.

The Roadrunners had other sports place in the top 10.

This award is determined by averaging the accumulative GPA in college prep courses of all student-athletes on the team and comparing them with other schools.

These comparisons are divided into 2 categories:  schools with 1,500+ students and those with 1, 499 or less.

The Academic Awards program is sponsored by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Ford.

The awards were based on the first semester of the 2013-14 school calendar year. Crossroads baseball team took first place with an overall GPA of 3.61. The Roadrunners girls’ track and field team was the top squad, boasting a 3.86 GPA as a squad.

The boys’ volleyball team also earned top kudos with their overall GPA of 3.80 as a team.  Garnering second place honors was Crossroads’ girls’ basketball team, softball, girls’ tennis, girls’ volleyball and girls swimming.

Crossroads (3.86) just missed out on the top spot in girls’ volleyball to Delphi Academy (3.94).

The Roadrunners were nipped in softball (3.77), by Mesa Grande (3.78), clipped by Villanova Prep (3.87) in girls’ swimming (3.78) and was outpointed by Villanova Prep (3.88) in girls’ tennis (3.83).

Both the school’s boys (3.67) and girls (3.73) soccer teams made the third place list.
