“Neighbors” Opens At Number One With $51 Million In Ticket Sales:

“Neighbors” opened in the number one spot at the North American box office this weekend, with an estimated $51 million in ticket sales.

Studio estimates gathered by Rentrak show the comedy about a fraternity moving in next to an All-American couple’s house outpaced “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

The Spider-Man flick was estimated to sell $37.2 million in tickets over the three days ending today.

But lest any “Spidey sense” be tingling over at Disney’s Marvel Comics division, the movie will have spun $147.9 million in domestic sales over the 10-day period ending tonight.

“The Other Woman” was in third place, with $9.3 million in sales this weekend and a three-week domestic total of $61.7 million.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this weekend, as estimated by the studios and collated by Rentrak, were “Heaven Is For Real” ($7 million), “Rio 2” ($5.3 million), “Mom’s Night Out” (debuting at $4.2 million), “Legends Of Oz” (debuting at $3.7 million), “Divergent” ($1.7 million) and “Brick Mansions” ($1.5 million).
