Planning Commissioner Richard McKinnon To Run For Santa Monica City Council:

Santa Monica Planning Commissioner Richard McKinnon will formally announce his candidacy for the Santa Monica City Council at a campaign launch event this Friday.

Joining him will be Bobby Shriver, Wendy Greuel, and Ted Winterer.

“The 2014 City Council election is a chance to lead Santa Monica and its City Council in new directions,” McKinnon said. “I am excited to present a vision of why Santa Monica is so special – why it’s such a great place to live – and what we can do to make it even better.”

McKinnon is a renter and small business owner dedicated to Santa Monica’s future.

He currently serves on the Santa Monica Planning Commission and formerly served on the Parks & Recreation Commission, working to improve the quality of life in our city.

A committed environmentalist, McKinnon is Chair of Arboretum Santa Monica and the former Chair of “Bike It!” Day.

He has been a leader in several non-profit organizations and within the Santa Monica school system.

McKinnon and his family immigrated to the United States from Australia 14 years ago and are proud to call Santa Monica home.
