Santa Monica police arrested a 44-year-old Marina del Rey man on Sunday, April 21 after surveillance video captured him breaking in and stealing items from his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 300 block of California Avenue after they had received a report of a burglary in progress at 12 pm.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the female victim who told them what had happened.
She said that she was at home and decided to watch some previously recorded footage from her home surveillance camera when she noticed that the video portrayed images of her ex-boyfriend climbing through a window and into her apartment.
The victim explained to the officers that they had broken up in 2005 and that he did not have permission to enter her apartment through a window (or presumably through a door?).
The officers had taken note of a vehicle leaving the area when they arrived and discovered that the vehicle was registered in the name of the ex-boyfriend.
This vehicle was stopped shortly afterwards and it was confirmed that the man driving the vehicle was the ex-boyfriend pictured in the surveillance video.
The officers searched the suspect’s vehicle and discovered property that had been taken from the victim’s apartment.
This Marina del Rey man was charged with burglary and bail was granted in the sum of $50,000.
