A popular Redondo Beach diner sustained extensive fire damage early today.
The blaze at CJs Pantry, on the 300 block of South Catalina Avenue, was reported at 2:05 a.m., Redondo Beach Police Department Sgt. Alan Beck said.
The fire appeared to have started in the diner’s kitchen, and the structure as “pretty well engulfed” when fire units arrived, Beck said.
Firefighters had the flames out within 20 minutes of their arrival, said Redondo Beach Fire Department Division Chief Mark Winter, adding the pantry had been in business for about 30 years.
Two adjoining businesses on each side of the diner — Sushi Duke and a nail salon — sustained water and smoke damage, Winter said.
A cause of the fire and damage estimates were under investigation, he said.
