Australian rapper Iggy Azalea will carry a leading six nominations into Sunday’s presentation of the American Music Awards, while John Legend, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams each have five.
Azalea, Legend, Perry and Williams will compete for artist of the year honors with Beyonce, Luke Bryan, Eminem, Imagine Dragons, Lorde and One Direction.
Azalea is also nominated for new artist of the year, single of the year, favorite female pop/rock artist, favorite rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop album.
She is up for single of the year for her collaboration with Charli XCX on “Fancy.” Also nominated in the category are Legend for “All of Me,” MAGIC for “Rude,” Perry and Juicy J for “Dark Horse” and Williams for “Happy.”
Competing with Azalea for new artist of the year are Bastille, Sam Smith and Meghan Trainor.
Azalea will be performing with Jennifer Lopez during the show. Others expected to perform are Garth Brooks, Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons, Fergie, Lorde, One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Mary J. Blige, Sam Smith and Charli XCX.
Also expected to perform is Taylor Swift, who will be honored during the event with the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence. Swift will be recognized as the only artist in history to have three albums — “Speak Now,” “Red” and “1989” — sell more than 1 million copies in their first week on the market, according to Dick Clark Productions and ABC.
Swift will open the show by performing her new single, “Blank Space.”
The AMAs, hosted by Pitbull, will be held at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live and broadcast on ABC. Winners are determined by online voting at www.AMAvote.com.
