A Southwest Airlines flight from San Francisco to Phoenix landed instead at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday with an extra passenger, thanks to a woman who gave birth during the flight.
Southwest Flight 623 landed at LAX around 7:30 a.m. after being diverted, according to Marshall Lowe of Los Angeles World Airports.
The woman apparently went into labor shortly after the plane took off from San Francisco. An emergency room nurse happened to be on the flight and helped deliver the baby, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Paramedics boarded the flight when it landed at LAX and tended to the woman and baby, and both were taken to a hospital in good condition, fire officials said.
The remaining passengers were transferred to another flight.
