Three men all aged 20 were arrested in Santa Monica on Monday, Jan. 19, after admitting they had been on a theft rampage stealing bicycles.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the area of Ocean Avenue and Strand Street at 11 pm in order to investigate a report of possible bicycle thefts.
A witness had called the police after spotting three suspects putting bicycles into the back of a red truck and then leaving the area.
Officers arrived and initially could not find the red truck, but after about 14 minutes of scouring the area, they chanced upon the suspect vehicle with a number of bicycles stacked in the back in the 500 block of Strand Street.
The officers detained the three men in the truck – all aged 20 years and from Los Angeles – and questioned them individually.
During these interviews each of the men admitted that they had been out stealing bicycles in Santa Monica that evening.
Each of these men was arrested and later charged with possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $20,000 each.
