Santa Monica To Remain In Grips Of Heat Wave Today With High Of 81:

The Southland will remain in the grips of a heat wave today following a day of record-setting high temperatures.

Today’s temperatures were expected to  remain abnormally high though a few degrees lower than Sunday’s, remaining in the low 90s in several communities while slipping to the high 80s in others.

Today, NWS forecasts a high of 81 today in Santa Monica, 74 on Tuesday, and 67 on Wednesday.

Record highs were recorded in the greater Los Angeles area on Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service reported a high of 92 in downtown L.A. Sunday, breaking the record of 85 set in 1978; 88 at LAX, breaking the record of 83 set in 1959; 92 at Long Beach Airport, breaking the record of 86 set in 1978; 90 at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, breaking the record of 86 set in 1994; 91 at UCLA, breaking the record of 83 set in 1978; 77 at Sandberg in the Antelope Valley, tying the record of 77 set in 2013.

In Orange County, Santa Ana’s 92 broke the record of 89 set in 1931 and Newport Beach’s 85 eclipsed the record 83 set in 1959.

The weekend heat wave was the result of a slow-moving high pressure system, according to the NWS.

The NWS forecast partly cloudy skies today and highs of 77 on Mount Wilson; 78 in San Clemente; 80 in Avalon; 81 in Laguna Beach; 82 at LAX and in Newport Beach; 83 in Palmdale and Lancaster; 88 in Mission Viejo and Saugus; 89 in Irvine; 90 in downtown L.A., Long Beach, Yorba Linda, Fullerton, Anaheim, Pasadena, and Burbank; 91 in Woodland Hills; and 92 in San Gabriel. Temperatures are expected to largely revert to the 70s Tuesday.
