Santa Monica police will today take part locally in a statewide “Shoulder Tap” Decoy Operation involving nearly 100 California law enforcement agencies.
SMPD Sgt. Rudy Camarena said the goal of the operation is to reduce crime on the street by arresting adults who furnish alcohol to minors and arresting persons for other crimes such as parole violations or warrants for their arrest.
Camarena said this pre-holiday (St. Patrick’s Day) undercover operation is to reduce youth access to alcohol and send a clear message that it is illegal for adults to purchase or provide alcohol to persons under the age of 21 and to promote responsible sales of alcohol by licensees.
