Los Angeles International Airport is expected to see its busiest day of the holiday travel season today, with about 232,000 passengers projected to pass through the airport.
Airport officials said passengers should arrive early and expect crowded terminals, with domestic flights at 90 percent capacity.
LAX activity is expected to slow on New Year’s Eve, with an expected 180,000 people passing through the facility, and an estimated 186,000 people on New Year’s Day. The average daily passenger volume at LAX is 193,000.
In all, a record 3.5 million passengers are expected to move through the airport during the holiday travel season that began Dec. 18 and ends Jan. 3, up 7.9 percent from last year, making LAX the nation’s busiest airport over the holidays, officials said.
