Santa Monica Motorcyclist Identified As Man Killed In Sunland Crash On Friday:

A Santa Monica motorcyclist killed in a crash Friday in Sunland has been identified as 40-year-old Ashish Patel, according to the coroner’s office.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at 12:43 pm on Big Tujunga Canyon Road at Mount Gleason Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist from Santa Monica, identified as Patel, was driving his 2014 Ducati 1199 Panigale eastbound on Big Tujunga Canyon Road at a very high rate of speed when he crashed into the side of a 1980 Volvo 244 driven by 31- year-old Christopher Stoneham of Tujunga, said CHP Sgt. T. Kovaletz.

Stoneham had slowed down to make a left turn onto a dirt road, Kovaletz said.

Patel was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
