Fireside at the Miles to Feature OSM Woodwind Quintet Friday:

Orchestra Santa Monica’s (OSM) Woodwind Quintet will be performing at the Miles Memorial Playhouse this evening, February 12, as part of the Fireside at the Miles Series.

The program will present a variety of engaging music by Mozart, Beethoven, Elliot Carter, Gunther Schuller, George Gershwin, and local Santa Monica composer, Adrienne Albert, according to OSM.

“As a special feature, Albert will be attending the concert where audience-goers will hear two of her compositions “Sam’s Dance” and “Animalogy,” the latter being a Southern California premiere performance,” OSM said.

The Miles theater is a unique venue for enjoying music in casual comfort with options of tiered seating, couches, and small cafe-style tables with chairs. Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks are available for purchase and, as the series name suggests, the setting includes a beautiful fire in the background fireplace for a warm and cozy ambience.

The OSM Woodwind Quintet (featuring flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and horn) is an important outreach ensemble representing the full 50-member Orchestra Santa Monica organization founded in 2012, OSM explained.

As OSM’s mission is to keep classical music alive and vibrant, the OSM Woodwind Quintet’s role in helping OSM create a strong and close-knit classical music community is an integral one as the quintet performs for local schools and community events.

To learn more about OSM, the OSM Woodwind Quintet, and their community outreach, see orchestrasantamonica.org.

Tonight’s performance begins at 8pm, doors at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and youth 17/under.  For reservations call :310. 458.8634 or email  MilesPlayhouse@SMGov.net

The Miles is wheelchair accessible and is located at 1130 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica, near the intersection of Wilshire and Lincoln Blvds. in Christine Emerson Reed Park, just north of the tennis courts.

The “Fireside at the Miles series runs through February 26.  For additional information on the Miles Memorial Playhouse and their “Fireside at the Miles Series”, please visit http://www.smgov.net/departments/CCS/MilesPlayhouse/.
