Art Looms: Designing Weavers Present New Exhibition:

The Branch Gallery is proud to present Art Looms, an exhibition with work exclusively from the Designing Weavers, a nationally recognized fiber guild based in Los Angeles.

A dynamic range of work will be present, including tapestry wall hangings, sculptures, and garments. Each artist approaches weaving with unique fervor, producing a mix of representational and abstract woven imagery, along with other innovative weave structures. In addition to the fine art on display in the main gallery, there will also be functional objects for sale in a boutique on site. Such objects include handmade jewelry, basketry, scarves, rugs, and hats.

The Designing Weavers have exhibited widely in the L.A. county area, most recently at the Sierra Madre Women’s club and Concordia University Irvine. Many of the members teach workshops at conferences and local guilds. The Designing Weavers are a strong force in the art and design community, and their mission to encourage and promote excellence in the fiber arts is clearly reflected in their work.

Participating artists in this exhibition include: Nicki Bair, Deanna Deeds, Susan E. Horton, Trish Lang, Eva McCracken, Michael Rohde, Deb Shoenberger, Sara Smelt, Rebecca Smith, and Cameron Taylor-Brown.

The exhibition runs April 1-May 21, 2016, with a reception April 1 from 6-9pm.

About Branch Gallery

The Branch Gallery is a fiber-based art space in Los Angeles. The gallery emphasizes both exhibition and education in its 1500 square feet of multifaceted space. Providing opportunities exclusively for the fiber arts, the Branch Gallery allows fiber artists to share their work and techniques with the broader Los Angeles arts community. Stimulating more attention to fiber as a fine art, along with its presence as a craft, will inspire others to create their own tactile fiber experiences.

Located in the City of Inglewood, the Branch Gallery is west of the 405 on Manchester Blvd. Inglewood has become known for its vibrant arts district and budding arts scene. We invite you to join us as we join in this journey of local metamorphosis.

The Branch Gallery is a project of The Knitting Tree, L.A., a fiber retail space in Los Angeles’ Culver City. It is a community space, offering materials and classes for knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners and other fiber crafters and artists.

About the Designing Weavers

Designing Weavers began in the early 1970s with a small group of women coming together to share their knowledge of weaving. Among the founding members were Marie Walling, Dottie Wier and Estelle Carlson. As word traveled of this exciting group its membership grew until it reached 35 members. The people involved were powerful artists and quite a few became well known in the fiber world. The group continues to be a strong force in the art and design community and contains several nationally known fiber teachers, artists and designers.
