Santa Monica’s iconic Shutters on the Beach has announced the appointment of Laura McIver as the property’s new hotel manager. In her new role, McIver will be responsible for leading all aspects of operations of the resort, including elevating service levels and overseeing the resort’s food and beverage programming at destination restaurants 1 Pico and Coast Beach Café and Bar, the resort said.
A familiar face to the Edward Thomas Companies, McIver previously held the position of general manager for the hospitality brand’s Canary Hotel; the position of resident manager at Hotel Casa Del Mar; and the position of corporate director of food and beverage at both Hotel Casa Del Mar and Shutters on the Beach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Laura back to our Shutters on the Beach family, as she brings incredibly strong leadership and diverse experience in luxury hospitality and guest services,” said Shutters on the Beach Vice President and Managing Director Klaus Mennekes. “Laura intimately understands the Los Angeles and niche Santa Monica markets, and we know she is the perfect fit for the continued advancement of our exceptional property.”
McIver has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and arrives to Shutters on the Beach from KSL Resorts, where she served as the Vice President and General Manager of Miraval Resort and was responsible for directing all aspects of the property operations for the destination wellness resort. Prior to her role with KSL Resorts, McIver held positions as General Manager at El Encanto Hotel; Area Director of Catering for the Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group; and Director of Catering and Conference Services at Hotel Monaco’s Grand Café, among other luxury hospitality roles.
