Santa Monica Police Chief Swearing In – Media and Public Not Invited

The swearing in of Santa Monica’s new Chief of Police Cynthia Renaud is happening tomorrow morning, Tuesday May 8, at Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club.

New Chief of Police Cynthia Renaud.

We’re told that light pastries will be provided, but we’re not invited. Actually no media outlets received an invitation to the event, with organizers explaining that they will send us appropriate photos and information. They didn’t want Chief Renaud to be “overwhelmed” by media questions on the day.

While we explained to the organizers that taking media questions is actually part of the Chief’s job, as cover events is the press’, we were told that a separate interview time would be arranged for questions.

So how much event design of a public servant, funded by Santa Monica taxpayer dollars, should actually be orchestrated as it has been?

“Select” members of the community have been invited via a Paperless Post email and schwanky card invites went out via post.

Santa Monica City did not respond to any emails from The Mirror on the topic, including those pertaining to the cost of the event.
