The St. Monica High School boys varsity football team has gotten off to a 0-3 start to the 2018 pre-season but with two close games, the action has been nothing short of exciting.
On August, 31, the St. Monica Mariners hosted Sun Valley’s Village Christian Crusaders at Santa Monica College, and lost an 18-6 in a neutral non-conference game. Down 12-0 at halftime, the Mariners scored a touchdown in the third-quarter to pull within 6 points of Sun Valley. The Crusaders, however, scored an insurance touchdown in the fourth-quarter and the Mariners were unable to mount a comeback.
Up next for St. Monica on September 7 is Little Rock High School, another neutral non-conference game. This is the first of three consecutive “Touchdowns Against Cancer Games” St. Monica will be competing in. Touchdowns Against Cancer, a national program created in partnership between MaxPreps, Pledge It and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, has varsity teams across the country pledge a donation for every touchdown their team scores this September.
The St. Monica Mariners will kick off their regular season on October 12 with an away game versus the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals. The Mariners first regular season home game will be on October 20 versus the Mary Star of the Sea Stars at Santa Monica College.
