Get the Most Out of Santa Monica This Summer with These 7 Tips

Did you know that Santa Monica is named after Saint Monica of Hippo? Plus, it’s one of the few beach cities right near the Los Angeles metropolitan area. We know Santa Monica for its vibrant beach culture and surf scene. But there is so much more to this sunny spot than just the water. People come here for the affluent neighborhoods, unique dining options, and high-end shopping districts. If you’re looking for some fun things to do in Santa Monica this summer or heading here to enjoy some time on the beach, here are seven great ways to discover what makes this city so special:

Head to the Beach

We can’t talk about Santa Monica without discussing the beach. The beaches here are some of the most beautiful in the country. People flock from all over to surf the waves, enjoy the sun, and walk the Santa Monica Pier. It’s a fun place whether you are flying solo, bringing friends, or spending time with your family. People come from Los Angeles all the time to get some fresh air, sunshine, and relaxing ocean waves. Make sure to bring a beach chair and umbrella if you want to sit down and relax. You can also rent paddleboards, surf boards, and other water gear.

Check out the Events at the Santa Monica Civic Center

If you love the arts, there are many events at the Santa Monica Civic Center that will appeal to you. You’ll find concerts, theatre shows, and movies as well as lectures and other programs for children. Each event has its own pricing and options. Plus, the Civic Center has unique architectural details that people love.

Host a Dinner Party Featuring a Premium Liquor

The evenings in Santa Monica offer the perfect weather to host a dinner party. Why not introduce your guests to liquor like premium tequila, gin, or whiskey? You can even find a bottle of California wine to add to the mix. Summertime in Southern California brings farmers’ markets where you can find fresh local ingredients like vegetables, meats, and fish that you can prepare and serve to your dinner party guests alongside your favorite adult beverage.

Enjoy a Meal at Isla on Santa Monica’s Main Street

Isla is a seafood restaurant located at 2424 Main Street in Santa Monica. The menu has an extensive selection of fresh fish, seafood, and shellfish prepared in many different ways. Isla is located just a little way from the beach and down the road from the Santa Monica Pier. It just opened, so make it your first stop this summer for delicious seafood and drinks.

Walk Around the Third-Street Promenade

The Third Street Promenade is a great place to walk, whether you’re looking for some exercise, shopping, or you just want to people-watch and look for street fashion. You can get a coffee or snack at one of the many restaurants or find whatever you need at one of the local shops.

Check out the La Brea Tar Pits Nearby

If you’re in the mood for a little history and science, the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles is a great place to visit. The museum is known for its fossil collection. The tar pits are a protected site, but they offer tours and a variety of programs that help you discover the past in more detail.

Visit Point Dume

Another great place to visit in the Santa Monica area is Point Dume. It’s a state beach and nature preserve that offers stunning views of the water and the cliffs. It’s an excellent spot for walking, hiking, and getting back to nature. Some people love to come at sunset to enjoy the spectacular views that you can’t see anywhere else.

Conclusion

Santa Monica is a great place to visit in the summer and has so much more to do besides hanging out at the beach. There’s so much to do, from going shopping to trying out new restaurants to relaxing with friends. Plus, there are a ton of great options in Los Angeles including the La Brea Tar Pits that aren’t too far from Santa Monica. You can also get back to nature with a hike along Point Dume.
