Historic Santa Monica Property “The Witbeck House” Listed for Sale at $22.5M

Greene & Greene-designed home features 26,000+ square foot lot with five bedroom home

A historic property known as The Witbeck House has been listed for sale in Santa Monica for $22.5 million

The property– located at 226 Palisades Avenue –  boasts of an exceptional architectural design, which was created by legendary Arts & Crafts architects, Greene & Greene. Notably, Pasadena’s Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens showcase the iconic work of Greene & Greene. The listing agent is Justin Alexander of The Alexander Group at Compass.

In 1917, Charles and Henry Greene were commissioned by businessman Charles Witbeck to construct a two-story shingle-style house that would capture East Coast charm in a California setting. The result was a five-bedroom, five-bathroom main house, a two-bedroom guest house with a full kitchen and bath, and a two-story A-frame office that was once the home-based music studio of legendary artist, Jackson Browne.

The property’s park-like grounds are enchanting, with a walled garden, lush 40-foot hedges, gravel paths, and breathtaking scale throughout. The 26,200 square foot flat lot also offers a large pool and spa, a play-ready pickleball and paddle tennis court, a built-in outdoor grill, multiple entertaining decks, and an unbeatable location that is less than a block from Palisades Park and Santa Monica’s Gold Coast beach.
