Downtown Santa Monica’s Outdoor Movie Extravaganza Lights Up Third Street Promenade

A Cinematic Journey Under the Stars, Featuring Beloved Films and Special Surprises

By Dolores Quintana

Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is thrilled to announce a captivating monthly outdoor movie series on the iconic Third Street Promenade. Taking place every second Friday of the month, from September 8 through December 8, this free outdoor film series promises a delightful cinematic experience for all.

The movie lineup for this series includes beloved classics and family favorites:

  • September 8: Kickstarting the series is the screening of “Spy Kids” (2001). This film features Los Angeles native and owner of Trejo’s Tacos, Danny Trejo. In tribute to this hometown hero, the first 100 attendees will receive a complimentary taco with the purchase of another taco of equal or lesser value, courtesy of Trejo’s Tacos.
  • October 13: Embrace the spirit of fall with “Freaky Friday” (2003), which stars Santa Monica native Jamie Lee Curtis. Several pivotal scenes in this movie were shot on the Promenade. Before the screening, enjoy an engaging Q&A session with “Freaky Friday” screenwriter Heather Hach.
  • November 10: Transport yourself to the world of dinosaurs with “Jurassic World” (2015). Surrounding the screening, the Promenade is adorned with triceratops, stegosaurus, and various dinosaur topiaries, creating a family-friendly, dino-themed atmosphere.
  • December 8: The Christmas classic “Die Hard” (1988) concludes the series, featuring scenes shot and based in Los Angeles.

All events commence at 6:30 PM, with movies starting at 7:30 PM. These events are suitable for all ages and offer a range of entertainment, including fun photo opportunities, complimentary popcorn, and a DJ spinning music before each film.
