New initiative aims to boost digital currency awareness, partnerships, and sustainable mining efforts
The city of Santa Monica has unveiled an official Bitcoin office to enhance the monetization and awareness of digital assets among its citizens, as reported by several outlets.
The primary objective of the Santa Monica Bitcoin Office, which comes via partnership with bitcoin nonprofit Proof of Workforce, is to educate residents about Bitcoin, its principles, and the advantages of digital currencies.
According to a recent City Council agenda item, the Bitcoin office aims to accomplish the following initiatives: bitcoin education for local residents, students, businesses and
Workforce; identify and facilitate Bitcoin partnerships that support the City’s
economic recovery and economic growth, while attracting a global Bitcoin
Conference and tourism industry; foster remote and local career opportunities for Santa Monica residents and students; and use stranded city generated renewable energy to explore environmentally neutral bitcoin mining.
“Santa Monica continues to lead in innovation, living up to our legacy as Silicon Beach. Last night the City Council moved forward with a partnership with @workforcebtc to educate the community about #bitcoin and seek opportunities for economic benefits. More details to come.” the City of Santa Monica posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The initiative is expected to foster general acceptance and utilization of Bitcoin in the city. Recently, Santa Monica firefighters adopted self-custody of Bitcoin, possibly reflecting the city’s growing interest in the cryptocurrency, Cryptopolitan reported.
Proof of Workforce founder Dom Bei announced plans to display Bitcoin visuals on the Santa Monica Pier to celebrate the office’s opening, also according to Cryptopolitan.
