Since 1995, the city has recognized over 170 businesses through the program
Several Santa Monica businesses will be honored this month for their efforts to reduce environmental impact and promote social responsibility at the 29th annual Sustainable Quality Awards, set to take place April 30 at the Annenberg Community Beach House.
The awards, presented in partnership with Sustainable Works, recognize local companies that incorporate sustainable practices into their operations. Since 1995, the city has recognized over 170 businesses through the program.
This year’s Grand Prize will go to Overdrive Energy Solutions, a company that develops low- and zero-emission portable power systems designed to replace traditional diesel and gas generators. The business provides energy solutions for live events, emergency response efforts, and other off-grid uses.
Six other businesses will receive Excellence Awards for achievements in one or more of three categories: economic development, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
Redcar Properties Ltd. was recognized for both economic development and environmental stewardship. Angeles Investment Advisors and Good Body Pilates Studio were honored for economic development, while Capital Intelligence Associates was awarded for social responsibility. Heal the Bay Aquarium and Phoenix Classical Pilates received recognition for their environmental efforts.
All of this year’s honorees are certified through the Santa Monica Green Business Program and recognized by the California Green Business Network.
“The Sustainable Quality Awards are a reminder that environmental protection, economic vitality, and social equity are not at odds—they are mutually reinforcing,” said Shannon Parry, Santa Monica’s chief sustainability officer, in a statement. “These businesses lead by example, and we’re grateful for their efforts.”
The awards ceremony begins at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
