An officer used footage to identify a possible suspect near 5th and Olympic Boulevard
A man was recently arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who was sunbathing on a Santa Monica beach, police said.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, officers received multiple 911 calls on July 24 reporting a possible assault on the 1200 block of the beach. Investigators determined that a suspect had approached a woman from behind and sexually assaulted her while she was lying on the sand.
The victim managed to record video of the suspect as he fled, police said. An officer used the footage to identify a possible suspect near 5th Street and Olympic Boulevard. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.
The victim was transported to a treatment center for medical care.
