Nighttime and Daytime Lane Closures Set for PCH and Topanga Canyon For the Week of Sept. 29 to Oct. 5

Caltrans Will Pave, Restripe, and Repair Fire-Damaged Sections, With Single-Lane Closures and Reduced Speed Limits

Motorists traveling through Malibu and Pacific Palisades this week should prepare for significant nighttime lane closures as Caltrans continues repair and repaving work on Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) and Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27).

Beginning Monday, Sept. 29, through Wednesday, Oct. 1, crews will reduce PCH to one lane in each direction south of Big Rock Drive between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The work will include paving, restriping, lane shifts, and installation of k-rail barriers. Daytime single-lane closures are also possible between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays throughout the work zone.

Caltrans noted that closures are weather-dependent and subject to change. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Current PCH Conditions

  • McClure Tunnel to Temescal Canyon Road: Normal traffic, 45 mph speed limit.
  • Temescal Canyon to Sunset Boulevard: Reduced speed limit, 35 mph with cones and signage.
  • Sunset Boulevard to Carbon Beach Terrace: Active construction zone, 25 mph limit with possible single-lane closures.

Scheduled PCH Work Zones

  • Ventura County Line to Carbon Beach Terrace: Nighttime lane closures possible near Trancas Canyon Road and Guernsey Avenue, as well as at Corral Canyon Road Bridge.
  • South of Las Flores Canyon Road to Sunset Boulevard: Ongoing fire-damage repairs to roadway, drainage, and slopes. Lane closures as needed, 9 p.m.–6 a.m.
  • Just south of Big Rock Drive:
    • Northbound reduced to one lane weekdays, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
    • Night closures reducing PCH to one lane in each direction: Sept. 29–30 and Oct. 1–2, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Big Rock Drive to Topanga Canyon Boulevard: Southern California Edison trenching with weekday lane and shoulder closures in both directions during daytime hours.
  • South of Topanga Canyon Boulevard: Rock mitigation repairs requiring closure of one northbound lane, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. weekdays.

Topanga Canyon Boulevard (SR-27)

  • Closed to all traffic nightly from midnight to 5 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control with pilot car, 5 a.m.–midnight daily, between postmiles 2.5 and 2.8 for emergency work.
  • One-way control for SCE trenching, postmiles 4.3 to 6.7, from 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily.
  • Overnight one-way control between Grand View Drive and south of Topanga town center, 10 p.m.–6 a.m. weekdays.
