Vehicle Struck by Metro Train in Santa Monica; 70-Year-Old Driver Hospitalized

No injuries were reported among train passengers

A Metro train collided with a vehicle near 11th Street late Wednesday morning, sending a 70-year-old woman to the hospital, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 10:59 a.m. when the driver attempted to turn onto 11th Street in front of a westbound train, according to a preliminary report from the Santa Monica Police Department. The vehicle was struck by the train, but no injuries were reported among train passengers.

The driver, who remained conscious and breathing at the scene, was evaluated by Santa Monica Fire Department personnel and transported to a local hospital for further assessment. Authorities said the transport was consistent with her age and taken as a precaution.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Transit Services Bureau also responded and are working with Metro on the investigation, which remains ongoing.
