Driveways to local businesses will remain open, though motorists should expect shoulder and parking restrictions

Caltrans announced lane closures and parking restrictions along portions of State Route 2 (SR-2) in West Los Angeles and Echo Park from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2 as part of an ongoing multimodal pavement improvement project.

The daytime construction, scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., will focus on curb, gutter and sidewalk repairs. Parking restrictions will remain in effect 24 hours a day throughout the work period, Caltrans said.

In West Los Angeles (Segment A), up to one lane will be closed in each direction of Santa Monica Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and Amherst Drive. Parking will be prohibited on both sides of the street in the same area. The Big Blue Bus stop at Main Street and Santa Monica Boulevard will be temporarily relocated to Carmelina Avenue.

In Echo Park (Segment C), up to two lanes of Alvarado Street between U.S. Highway 101 and Santa Ynez Street will close between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with additional single-lane closures from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. Parking will be restricted on both sides of Alvarado Street during the work.

Caltrans said driveways to local businesses will remain open, though motorists should expect shoulder and parking restrictions and potential delays. The $70.2 million project spans several segments of SR-2, from Centinela Avenue in Santa Monica to the SR-2 terminus in Echo Park, and aims to extend pavement life and improve safety along key corridors.

The project includes:

  • Segment A: Santa Monica Boulevard from Centinela Avenue to Interstate 405 (1.4 miles)
  • Segment B: Santa Monica Boulevard from La Brea Avenue to U.S. 101 (2.1 miles)
  • Segment C: Alvarado Street/Glendale Boulevard between U.S. 101 ramps and the SR-2 terminus (1.5 miles)

Caltrans cautioned that the schedule may change due to weather or operational factors, and nearby residents may experience noise, vibrations and dust during construction.
