County Investigates Second Measles Case Linked to International Traveler

The traveler arrived Jan. 26 and passed through the Tom Bradley International Terminal between 10:45 p.m. and 1 a.m Jan. 27.

Los Angeles County health officials are investigating the county’s second measles case of 2026, linked to an international traveler who was infectious while traveling through Los Angeles International Airport and visiting at least one other public location, authorities said Friday.

The traveler arrived Jan. 26 on Viva Aerobus Flight 518 and passed through Terminal B at the Tom Bradley International Terminal between 10:45 p.m. and 1 a.m. Jan. 27. Anyone in the terminal during that time may have been exposed, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said.

In coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local health departments are notifying passengers seated near the infected traveler.

Health officials also identified a potential exposure Jan. 30 at a Dunkin’ Donuts at 22020 Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills between 3 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.

People exposed to measles can develop symptoms seven to 21 days after exposure. Those exposed at LAX should monitor for symptoms through Feb. 16, while those exposed at the Woodland Hills location should monitor through Feb. 20. Affected health care facilities are notifying patients and staff who may have been exposed.

“Measles is a serious respiratory disease that spreads easily, particularly among people who are not protected,” said Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County health officer. He urged residents to check their vaccination status and contact a health care provider if they develop symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or rash.

Public Health said it is continuing to investigate additional possible exposure sites and urged residents to ensure they are fully vaccinated, especially before traveling.
