Effortless Movement: Activewear Looks for Yoga, Running, Weights, and More

If you’re an active person, you probably have a variety of activities you like to do to stay fit. Whether you’re running a 5K, taking a Pilates class, or weightlifting, you like to stay stylish in your workout clothes. We don’t blame you! Wearing clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident is key to getting a great workout in.

We’re going to give you some inspiration for what to wear for each type of workout and styling tips, so you can choose your outfits effortlessly.

Yoga

Whether you’re rolling out your yoga mat at home or at an in-person class, yoga outfits should be extremely comfortable. You want to be able to be fully relaxed when doing yoga, and that starts with what you’re wearing.

Opt for lightweight, stretchy, and breathable fabrics when choosing your pieces. Yoga clothes can be fitted but should be slightly looser and with less compression than strength training clothes. Lower support sports bras and seamless leggings made from buttery soft fabrics are ideal for staying in flow.

Running

If you’re running on a treadmill, look for breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. You want clothing that helps regulate your temperature when going on a sweaty run. Staying dry helps keep you comfortable and promotes higher stamina.

Go for darker colored tops that don’t show sweat, so you don’t get distracted wondering about your appearance. Loose-fitting tops and supportive sports bras are great for running and staying cool.

If you’re running outside during the cooler months, it’s important to stay warm by layering. Consider wearing a supportive sports bra, fitted long-sleeved top, and an insulating athletic jacket with high-waisted leggings. This outfit will keep you warm without overheating during your outdoor run.

Weightlifting

The right gym outfit isn’t just about looking fabulous, but rather comfort, versatility, and functionality. For weightlifting and strength training, you’ll want to look for squat proof bottoms, whether they’re biker shorts or leggings, and supportive tops.

When weightlifting, you don’t want to worry about chafing, so look for seamless designs. Thicker leggings in dark colors are ideal for weightlifting and are often more squat proof than bright colored options.

You’ll also want to stick to fitted tops, so you aren’t distracted by the movement when lifting. Fitted crop tops or even long-line sports bras are excellent for strength training sessions. Choose workout clothes made from durable and supportive materials to ensure long-lasting, comfortable wear.

Spin class

Spin classes are high intensity and a whole lot of fun. For this type of cardio workout, look for cropped leggings, biker shorts, supportive sports bras, and loose-fitting tank tops. These pieces will keep you comfortable while riding the stationary bike to the beat of the music.

Some spin classes use black lights to set the mood, so don’t be afraid to wear white or neon colors that shine in the light. Spin classes are all about keeping the energy up in the room, so bright colors are ideal. If it’s cold and you’re walking to and from your spin studio, be sure to bring a puffer or bomber jacket to stay warm.

HIIT workouts

For high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts, you’ll want to look for compression pieces that provide support when jumping and other quick movements. Leggings with compression waistbands are ideal because they stay in place while moving.

You may want to wear only a long-line sports bra to stay cool during sweaty HIIT workouts. If you aren’t comfortable in only a sports bra, wear a moisture-wicking top to help with sweating. Lightweight performance layers are ideal for HIIT workouts because they help prevent you from overheating.

Pilates

Pilates clothes should be non-restrictive and allow you to stretch your body with slow and controlled movements. Pilates favors lighter more feminine colors, like pastel pinks, purples, and yellows, and cooling cotton or buttery fabrics are ideal for mat or reformer Pilates workouts.

For a Pilates class, you can embody the viral “Pilates Princess” aesthetic by wearing a sports bra, wrap top, and buttery smooth leggings. Pilates is a low-impact workout that provides you with a lot of flexibility and creativity when styling outfits. Look for regular fit tops that aren’t too tight and offer breathability, comfortable leggings, and low-impact sports bras. You can even add a pair of leg warmers to fully lean into the “Pilates Princess” look.

Hopefully, this guide gives you some inspiration for your upcoming workouts. Remember that above all else, the best workout outfit is one you feel your best in. Shop for workout clothes made from durable materials that will last you season after season of wear.
