Officials warn residents that scammers are using fake email domains to solicit cash and personal data.
Los Angeles County officials issued a public warning Friday regarding a wave of deceptive phishing emails targeting local residents under the guise of official government business.
The Department of Regional Planning stated that unauthorized individuals are distributing emails from fraudulent domains to solicit personal data. Agency administrators emphasized that all legitimate digital correspondence from the department originates strictly from two verified addresses: [Name]@planning.lacounty.gov or donotreply@lacounty.gov.
Any electronic communications received from alternative web domains are fraudulent and have no connection to county operations, officials said.
The department noted that Los Angeles County agencies will never use email to request personally identifiable information, nor will they demand payments, fees, or funds via wire transfer.
Residents who encounter a suspicious email are strongly advised to refrain from replying, forwarding the message, or clicking any embedded links. To verify the authenticity of any planning notice, the public can contact the Department of Regional Planning directly via email at info@planning.lacounty.gov or by calling 213-974-6411.
