Palisades Teams Defeat Venice in League Openers:

The Palisades High boys and girls basketball teams both began their Western League schedules by defeating long-time rival Venice High.

The boys won, 75-47, and the girls prevailed, 61-51.

Five Palisades boys scored in double figures, led by senior Aaron Fitts with 17 points. Garrett Nevels had 16, Kenneth Towner and Rico Matheney 11, and Adam Griffin 10.

The boys had beaten Venice earlier this season in a tournament game and will play the Gondoliers in one more league contest.

Palisades must contend with perrienial league powers Westchester and Fairfax in league play. Westchester defeated Fairfax, 77-71, in their opening league game.

The Palisades Hugh girls were led by all-city center Dominique Scott in their win over Venice. Scott scored 30 points.

Boring Machine Tunnels Under Metro:

A boring machine dubbed "Angeli" began its underground journey Wednesday to create tunnels for Metro’s regional connector project, which will link up the Blue, Expo and Gold lines in downtown Los Angeles when completed.
