After guiding the Santa Monica College women’s’ swimming and diving team to an undefeated season, Steve Contarsy has been named the Western State Conference Coach of the Year.
The team went 7-0 in dual meets and set six conference records, then finished sixth in the state meet
“It’s not just me,” said Contarsy, who has coached the sport for 41 years, the last 10 at SMC. “First of all, you have to have the athletes. Then they have to be committed to work. Then they have to come together as a team.”
Some of the team’s top performers were Isabella Zhang, Sara Zandihn, Sarma Zernjanis and Chelsea Kemp.
