St. Monica was scheduled to play two games against Bosco Tech this week with the Camino Real League baseball championship at stake.The teams are tied for first place and the Mariners elevated themselves to the showdown by defeating Cathedral, 4-3 in nine innings on Friday, May 8 at Marine Park.The Mariners gave up a run in the top of the ninth and were one out away from defeat until they loaded the bases and scored twice. A walk to Kyle Schwan brought in one run and Anthony Yoshinaga’s single was the game-winner.St. Monica’s overall record is 13-9, including 9-4 in league games.That’s far superior to last season when the Mariners were 4-17 and a time of triumph for veteran coach Jack White.
