Former SMC Basketball Star To Transfer:

Noah Gottlieb, the fifth-leading all-time scorer in Santa Monica College basketball history, has opted out of his senior year at Chaminade University in Hawaii to seek a high-level college program closer to home in Southern California.

Gottlieb played on a lower level team at Santa Monica High, and then became an all-LA city guard at Venice.

At SMC he played two years and made all-Western State Conference first team both times.

He was all-conference last season at Chaminade too, averaging 9.4 points on 50 percent shooting and five assists, third highest in the Pacific West Conference.

His assists to turnovers ratio was fourth best.

In one game the 6-foot-1 Gottlieb had a triple double that included 16 rebounds and he was named the conference’s Player of the Week.

If Gottlieb transfers to a Division 1 program he’ll be required to redshirt for one season according to NCAA rules.

He has international experience, having played for the United States Maccabiah team in Italy.
