5th Annual Topanga Film Festival Aug 6-9:

The 5th Annual Topanga Film Festival, August 6-9, began five years ago as a homegrown film festival in the backyard of Urs and Sara Baur. This year the festival will be celebrated as a four day event. Festival organizers say the event will showcase short films, offer workshops, host panels and provide the opportunity to meet filmmakers.

Events will include an opening reception at Abuelita’s Mexican Restaurant, open air screenings in locations around the Canyon and include the “Best of Topanga Screening” at Froggy’s Fishmarket and Restaurant, a Youth Salon, closing with the “Big Night” short film competition on a giant outdoor screen at the Topanga Community Club ballfield (1440 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd.).

 AWARDS

The Festival’s Best Director will receive the “Coveted Coyote Award” handmade by local artist Zoe Hay. Award winners will also receive prizes from Festival sponsors.. Also there will be an “Honorable Mention” presented to the director  “who captures the jury’s imagination with a diamond in the rough”.

The Topanga Film Festival is an organization dedicated to the exhibition of independent and experimental short films, the promotion of film as a means to bridge cultures and create community, and the offering of educational outreach.
