New Roads Baseball Adopts A Slogan:

The New Roads baseball team had some of the best young talent on the Westside last season.

Several former Little League all-stars enrolled and made the varsity as freshmen. Some other outstanding players will have eligibility remaining. Yet the Jaguars lost more games than they won.

As the players gain experience, New Roads is likely to have more success in upcoming seasons. With this in mind a slogan has been adopted — “It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

T-shirts with New Roads baseball on the front and that message on the back were purchased and distributed to students.

“We bought a large quantity and handed them out to as many students as possible,” Steve Dolcemaschio wrote to The Mirror.

Blake Dolcemaschio was a freshman on the 2009 Jaguars, as were Anthony Carillo, Solomon Alison, and Anthony Jiminez. Quinn Barbini was a sophomore. Max Chikov, George Wasserman. Dylan Elkin and Ervin Sanchez were juniors.

“We’re a small school, only about 350 students but are determined to make the baseball program something to reckon with in the future,” Dolcemaschio wrote.

“This is a program in development and the season was exactly what one might expect from a young varsity squad.”
