Samohi Softball Team Starts Fast:

It figures to be an excellent season for the Santa Monica High softball team as most players return from last year’s successful play.

So far, so good.

Coach Debbie Skaggs’ squad has won its four games.

Samohi has defeated Peninsula 9-3, Chino 6-3, O’Connor of Phoenix 8-1 and El Toro 4-3.

Celisha Walker has pitched all but one inning and batted .538. Holly Elander is hitting .636, Hayley Congdon .494 and Kaile Nakao .429. The RBI leaders are Walker and Nakao with six.

Samohi is the defending Ocean League champion and seeks stronger competition by playing in early season tournaments.

As successful as the program has been in the recent past, Samohi hasn’t won a CIF championship. It is the goal this season to do so, just as it was for the school’s girls basketball team which did accomplish the feat.
