BAM Fest Brings Brews, Arts and Music:

A full lineup of local talent are joining with more craft breweries than you can shake a stick at during the fundraiser the Beer Art and Music Festival this Saturday, Oct. 2 from 1 to 6 p.m.

Sure to attract an eclectic crowd, the B.A.M. fest will celebrate locally-produced art and music in association with Library Alehouse at the 18th Street Arts Center at 1639 18th Street in Santa Monica. More than 20 craft breweries will offer for unlimited sampling during five hours of live music and four bands.

The event offers a rare opportunity to hear local music, see original art, and drink good beer, all for a good cause. All proceeds will support the non-profit organization 18th Street Arts Center, which supports contemporary art and fosters an artist community with affordable artist spaces.

If you haven’t heard of Venice local Christopher Hawley, chances are you don’t get out much. The Westside fixture can be found playing anywhere from the beachside bar the Whaler in Venice to the new Basement Tavern at the Victorian in Santa Monica on any given night.

“I think there are a lot of music lovers in L.A. and have been lucky to connect to the people that we have,” Hawley said.

Calling his career a “slow growth” process, he passed a milestone this August by performing at the historic Greek Theater opening for dueling guitar maestros Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Hawley, a 10-year music veteran, is planning an east coast tour for “Movember,” a month-long campaign to grow mustaches in awareness for prostate cancer. The cause hits close to home since Hawley’s father is a cancer survivor.

He said the goal is “creating consciousness and empowering people through music and song.” For more information about the tour and local event visit christopherhawley.net.

The Christopher Hawley Rollers have played together for about seven years as a self-proclaimed collective of “spiritual brothers.” They are known for supporting local nonprofits when not playing across the state.

Also appearing are The Makepeace Brothers, a folk and roots based group that toured with singer Jason Mraz. Two brothers Finian and Ciaran Makepeace, play with bassist Conor Gaffney. The Venice-based group have performed and lived locally since a full international tour, “Music Magic Makepeace.” To see local events visit makepeacebrothers.com.

JT Ross and his band Speedway is another Venice and Santa Monica-based two-man band that focuses on dance-type music. A self-taught harmonica player, Ross attributes influences such as roots, bluegrass, and reggae. To see event listings visit jtross.com.

The 3 Head is an acoustic, rock, power-pop group conglomeration that is based in the South Bay. The group is made of Pat Cleary, Heath Francis, Jared Fisher, and David Banks, all who have been playing since they were children. For more information about the group visit the3heads.com.

A featured group exhibition produced by Create: Fixate, a virtual and actual art marketplace curated by Elena Siff, original photography of downtown L.A. artist, Rick Mendoza, and L.A. author Jim Marquez signing his latest book “Citizen ME: L.A. Stories.” An open gallery space will showcase 16 Create: Fixate artists.
