Samohi Cross-Country Wins First Ocean League Meet:

Santa Monica High School cross-country teams placed first in the Ocean League’s first meet of the season, held Sept. 23 at Kenneth Hahn State Park.

Coach Tania Fischer said it was the first time in seven years that both boys and and girls varsity teams finished first.

Junior Andrew Capron paced the boys team with the race’s best mark, 17:29. Sophomore Emily Berkin led the girls varsity with a 22:15 mark, good enough for second place. Amanda Botfeld, Brooke Weiss, Alice Wasserman, and Tatiana Bedi finished second through fifth, respectively.
