Alert: Police Blotter:

The Impact Of The Pills Was Painful

On Thursday, September 30 at 9:05 a.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department headed to the 700 block of Pacific Coast Highway regarding a traffic collision. When the officers arrived they spoke with both of the drivers and noticed that the apparent offender in this case, namely a 56-year-old woman of Pacific Palisades who “rear-ended” the other car, was displaying signs of intoxication. The officers did not however detect the odor of alcohol upon her breath.

The officers investigated further, and with the application of police skills discovered that this woman had taken Vicodin and Xanax. These two drugs combined can have a similar effect upon concentration and motor skills as alcohol. The officers had the woman perform a series of balance and coordination tests. These she failed, so the officers took her off to jail, whereupon she was charged with felony driving while impaired. This charge was applied because there were injuries, albeit minor, involved in the accident. Her bail is $100,000.

Art Store Heist Fails

On Thursday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Lincoln Boulevard to investigate a suspect who was fighting with an employee at this art supply store. Upon arrival the officers noticed that the employee had the suspect in a wrestling headlock (a-one, a-two…) and so the officers intervened, and detained the suspect. The officers then learned that this suspect had entered the store earlier, and removed items without paying for them, and that the employee had confronted the suspect outside the store. The suspect, a 30-year-old man of no fixed abode, was booked for robbery. His bail is $30,000.

He Through A Wrench Into The Works

On Saturday, October 1 at 6:11 p.m., officers went to the 800 block of 19th Street in response to a report of a family disturbance. When the officers arrived at the scene they discovered that the victim, in this case the daughter of the suspect, had been asked to do some chores around the house by her intoxicated father (the suspect).

The victim had replied to this request in the negative, adding that she would prefer to lounge on the couch and watch television (time to call a maid service, one could assume?). After hearing the disappointing response from his daughter, dad went outside, only to return with a large wrench. Father then proceeded to lob the wrench through the front of the television set causing it to cease functioning, and also causing a great deal of damage. In the presence of the police officers, the daughter placed her “hammered” dad under citizen’s arrest for felony vandalism, for which he was booked. The dad, a 60-year-old, had been nailed, and was clamped into handcuffs and whisked off to jail with bail set at $20,000.
