Santa Monica Chamber Launches Job Bank:

Looking for work has never been easy and the recession has made it even more difficult for job seekers. The new Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce job bank is aimed to not only make job hunting easier for job seekers, but also help employers look for qualified applicants.

This new on-line resource aims to allow job seekers to easily connect with potential employers. The Chamber is celebrating the launch by allowing employers who are not Chamber members to advertise their openings for free for the next six months. After that the fee will be $25. There will never be any cost to job seekers. The site can be found at www.santamonicajobbank.com.

Chamber President Laurel Rosen said, “the early beginnings” of the job bank started when the Chamber partnered with the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau and Santa Monica College to create the “I Am Santa Monica” program. This program trains residents and others who work in the city to become City ambassadors. Rosen also mentioned that the City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica College are also partners in the Chamber’s job bank.

Also available to Santa Monica businesses and shoppers is a new discount site called SpreeDaily whose owners are Santa Monica residents. Its literature states that the goal is to use a “discount platform to help focus attention back on our community, but without squeezing businesses for crazy deals and then charging them exorbitant fees.” Instead, SpreeDaily.com charges a 10 percent commission on all discounts sold through their site. Half of the fee will go toward credit card and bank processing fees and the other half will be donated back to the community.

Shoppers at the site will be able to create their own personalized marketplace pages. This will make it easy for shoppers to receive updates on new deals from their favorite businesses. In the future they will be able to choose where the part of their sale that goes to the community goes.

The site is also working closely with the Chamber and the Buy Local Santa Monica campaign.

SpreeDaily.com will be launched on Black Friday, Nov. 26, 2010.
