Nothing to do on Christmas Eve? Laemmle Theatres began a new tradition two years ago, and are continuing it, by screening the 1971 film version of the beloved musical about Jewish life in Czarist Russia. The lyrics will be projected for singing along, although many members of the audience probably know them by heart.

This big celebration features 24 musical groups including Gabriella Axelrad Education Foundation, Palmdale High School Choral Union, Philippine Chamber Singers of Los Angeles, Harmonic Bronze Handbell Ensemble, Salvation Army Tabernacle Children’s Chorus, Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, and the Santa Monica Chorus. Short films will also be shown. Arrive by 11:30 a.m. to receive wristbands. If you don’t want to venture downtown, you can listen on KPFK-FM 90.7 or watch the broadcast live on KCET-TV.
