Motorcycle Police Officer Hit By Car:

A Santa Monica Police motor(cycle) officer was injured Thursday night when he was hit by car at the intersection of Sixth Street and Broadway Street in Downtown Santa Monica. The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released the next day, said Sgt. Jay Trisler of the Santa Monica Police Department.

The veteran officer, whose name was not released but who was described as having been on motor duty for many years, is expect to take some time off, but “Hopefully, eventually, he’s expected to return to work, ” Trisler said.

The officer had been heading west on Broadway Street, when a eastbound Honda Element turned left in front of the officer, hitting him. Trisler described the incident as an “accident” and said that the driver had not been arrested or charged with anything as of yet, although an investigation is ongoing.

Although he is unfamiliar with the actual statistical data, Trisler said that left turns “seem to be one of the more common causes of collisions.”
