Hands Across the Sand Demostration at Santa Monica Beach: Hundreds Hold Hands in Line to Protest Oil Spill in Santa Monica

Those who gathered Saturday, June 26 at noon at the Santa Monica beach north of the Santa Monica Pier joined thousands of others across America’s beaches and cities to draw metaphorical and literal lines in the sand as a demonstration against the Gulf oil spill, the threat oil drilling poses to America’s coastal economies and marine environment, and called for cleaner energy.

Attendees listened to activists and elected officials including Los Angeles City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, before lining up, holding hands, and making a line of people stretching at least a quarter of mile (if not more) for 15 minutes along to beach.
