On Saturday, July 16, at 1:07 a.m., officers were on patrol in the 2700 block of Second Street when they observed two suspicious people riding their bicycles the wrong way on Second Street. This act is a traffic violation. The officers had then circled around the block and had attempted to stop this pair at Third Street and Hill Street, but both of these cyclists fled. One of them rode northbound on Second Street, while the other one rode southbound on the same street. The officers decided to go after the northbound miscreant but he failed to stop, and rode at high speed through several stop signs as he attempted to escape.
The officers followed this guy into Venice and it was there that they deployed in front of him in order to stop him, but this man did not stop at all and rode his bicycle straight into a police officer. The man then resisted until he was tazed.
The officers searched this man and found that he was carrying burglary tools and stolen goods in his backpack. This 22-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting police officers, battery upon a police officer, and several vehicle code violations. His bail was set at $15,000.
