Santa Monica Police Respond To Assault With Deadly Weapon Report: APB: Tit For Tat?

On Thursday, August 18, at 12:20 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that had just occurred in the 1000 block of Franklin Street. When they arrived at the scene the officers spoke with both the parties involved, which was, on this occasion, a man and a woman who had been in a dating relationship for approximately four years.

This relationship could only be described as “rocky,” given that they had a history of prior domestic violence incidents between them during their time together. On this date, they had got into another argument, and the female half of the relationship had attacked her boyfriend with a stick, causing several injuries, namely scratching, bruising, and swelling to his neck and body. A witness stated that the boyfriend had not retaliated, but had simply walked away from the assault. The officers noticed, however, that the girlfriend also had bruising and swelling to her head, and that these injuries appeared fresh. When asked about these injuries, the girlfriend stated that her boyfriend had beaten her earlier that day.

The officers decided that it was prudent to arrest both of these people, and they were taken to jail. The woman, aged 44, and a resident of Sylmar, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, and a probation violation. She was not granted bail. The boyfriend, aged 49, and a Santa Monica resident, was charged with violation of a domestic violence order, domestic violence, and a probation violation. He too was denied bail.
