Speeding 20-Year-Old Crashes BMW While Texting On PCH In Santa Monica:

A speeding BMW, being driven by a 20-year-old male who was texting, collided with a 2006 Chevrolet two ton work truck at about 1:35 a.m. this morning on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica Police Department Sgt. Richard Lewis said officers responded to the 400 block of Northbound Pacific Coast Highway after receiving calls about an injury traffic collision.

Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles were involved in the accident.

The first was a 2007 BMW four-door and the second being a 2006 Chevrolet two ton work truck belonging to Blois Construction.

During the investigation, officers learned that the driver of the BMW ( Christopher Freeman, 20, of Malibu), was driving northbound in the #1 lane of PCH at more than 80 miles per hour.

He drifted into the #3 lane where he impacted the Chevrolet work truck carrying one Blois Construction employee, who was traveling much slower while completing a sewer project in the area.

“The impact of the collision caused the employee (Resident of Oxnard, Ca.) to sustain head and neck injuries,” Lewis said in a statement. “He was transported to a local hospital where he remains at this time. The driver of the BMW also sustained injuries to his head and body and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The BMW was totaled as a result of the collision.”

Further investigation revealed Freeman was texting while driving and was also suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

Due to his injuries, the suspect was not booked at this time and charges of felony driving under the influence are pending.
