The New West Symphony will bring its 2011/2012 Masterpiece Series season opener “Slavic Rousers” to Santa Monica next Sunday, Oct. 2.
Pianist Vassily Primakov will be the featured soloist for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Opus 23.
The program also includes the New West Overture by Michael Williams, Pastiche by John Briggs, Three Dances from The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana and Capriccio Espagnol, Opus 34 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
The Symphony’s founding music director and conductor laureate Boris Brott will lead the orchestra in three performances of the program.
The first performance will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center.
The program will be repeated on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
On Sunday, October 2 at 4 p.m. it will be performed at Barnum Hall on the campus of Santa Monica High School, located at 601 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica.
